OUR Mission at pleasant hill is to work in partnership with students, families and the community to provide developmentally appropriate instruction that meets or exceeds the state of ohio's academic standards in A RESPECTFUL, ORDERLY AND ENRICHED ENVIRONMENT.

 

Academics

DIRECT INSTRUCTION

Direct Instruction is an arrangement of the learning environment with a specific set of procedures and strategies that produces a change in the behavior of reading. With Direct Instruction, students can learn accurately, effectively and efficiently HOW TO BECOME BETTER READERS.

COLLEGE PREPARATORY

We offer an accelerated magnet program to grades 4-8 that develops strong fundamental skills in comprehension, critical THINKING, communication, social studies, math, science and the arts ARE ALL ADDRESSED THROUGH THE ACADEMIC PROGRAM.

READING and LANGUAGE ARTS

Reading/Language Arts AT Pleasant Hill draws from several reading sources, Harcourt/ Brace Signatures, Accelerated Reader, trade books from our own library and the public library provide a rich reading and writing experience for our students. EARLY LITERACY IS STRESSED THROUGH CONTINUED ASSESSMENT AND FLEXIBLE GROUPING.

Science

we focus on science with a hands on approach being that students learn best by doing. Through the use of the Foss program our students are exposed to aLL THE SCIENCES.

mathematics

Our Math department works tirelessly to provide our students with a strong foundation in the understandig of math. realizing that not all students learn in the same fashion, We continue to address all of the learning styles of our students. some of the tools we use are Accelerated Math, M2SE (Math, Science and Engineering) and manipulatives in Math.

Social studies

Our goal is to mold our students into responsible active citizens. In the area of Social Studies, students examine the experiences of various cultural groups as they immigrated to America. We delve into the study of the function of the U.S. Government and the rights and responsibilities of its citizens.

Athletics

football

7 & 8 grade students are invited to participate in our Co-Ed Football program. Students practice daily during the fall and play divisional games against other Cincinnati Public Schools. Students are bussed to away games and parents and family are invited to attend. Home games are played on the field next to the school. Students learn football basics, teamwork and collaboration.

boys basketball

7&8 grade boys can participate in our program and improve their basketball skills on the court. Students learn basketball basics, teamwork and collaboration. Our gym has limited space available so home games are limited to parents and guardians only.

girls basketball

7&8 grade girls can participate in our program and improve their basketball skills on the court. Students learn basketball basics, teamwork and collaboration. Our gym has limited space available so home games are limited to parents and guardians only.

Physical education

Physical Education Our fully equipped Gym serves as more than adequate facility for physical activities of all kinds. Grades Kdg.-8 build strong bodies to house strong minds. Students practice Baseball,Basketball,Gymnastics and cooperative sportsmanship.

arts/activities

music

We offer our K-8th grade students comprehensive music instruction that includes: Note recognition, rhythm and Choral training which helps to increase students' aptitude for music. Students often perform to the delight of peers and parents alike.

visual Arts

We also offer Art instruction to grades K-8th grade. Students are exposed to Art History and Critical thinking skills in the context of creating Art for Arts sake. Students' work is often displayed at area businesses and the Board of Education.

choir

Choral music is available to grades 6-8. Students learn note identification, stage presence and proper breathing while developing an ear for harmony. The choir performs for programs and community functions.

computer lab

Computer Lab Students practice keyboarding and improve their computer skills by learning basic technology terms and researching information through the internet.

Drama

Students in Grades 3-8 are offered opportunities to perform in various holiday/themed programs. This group performs for school functions and community events. Students memorize lines, research characters and focus on stage presence.

field trips
Field trips are a part of the Academic Program. Teachers in grades Pre-K-8 take scheduled field trips as they relate to the unit of study. We also offer field trips as incentives for positive behaviors.

Special Needs

Inclusion is provided for students within the Least Restricted Environment (L.R.E.) according to each Individualized Plan (I.E.P.). Children with disabilities are educated to the maximum extent appropriate with nondisabled students. The entire process is monitored by our School Psychologist and Case Coordinator.

lSDMC

Our Local School Decision Making Committee is comprised of teachers, administrators, parents, community and business leaders. This committee serves as the governing body for our school. They approve all aspects of operations and monitor our progress toward our Title I One Plan.

Our Instructional Leadership Team monitors and guides the instructional process of our school. It's comprised of teachers, administrators and parents. They also monitor the instructional piece of the Title I-One plan and report to the L.S.D.M.C.

pTA

Our Parent Teacher Association plays an active role in our school by providing support and finances for special events. They also serve as liasons between our parents and our school.
