The federally-funded school lunch programs will continue, despite the ongoing government shut down, according to Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) Food Service Director Jessica Shelly.
The school breakfast program, the fresh fruit and vegetable program, and the national school lunch program are just some of the child nutrition programs that rely on federal funding from the Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service (FNS).
"The CPS Food Services department has been fiscally responsible with its money from USDA; therefore, there will not be an immediate impact to our program if funding were to cease," Shelly said. "There is enough funding to last us through the month of March."
The Food Services department serves 60,000 breakfast and lunches to students each day.
